CommunityFollowing months of negotiation, the Yendi Municipal Assembly has announced a revised sachet water price effective immediately — a relief for households that have borne high costs during a five-year pricing stalemate.
Previous price: GH¢10 per bag
New price: GH¢7 per bag
The Yendi Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive, assembly members, producers, and the Concerned Citizens of Yendi (CCY), has announced a downward revision in the retail price of sachet water — from GH¢10 to GH¢7 per bag — with immediate effect.
The decision comes after a protracted negotiation process prompted by growing household affordability concerns set against a backdrop of a five-year price freeze that had left producers frustrated. Two inconclusive rounds of talks preceded the breakthrough, with the producers' association leadership consulting its membership on three separate occasions before a consensus was reached.
Notice to residents
The Assembly will monitor compliance closely. Residents are encouraged to report any seller charging above GH¢7 per bag to the appropriate municipal authorities.
The Assembly described the revised figure as a balance between consumer relief and producer sustainability, noting that broader sector challenges remain on the agenda for future deliberations.
